Who Me – Yes You
I have been thinking a lot about peace and justice. The vision statement of my church is “Grow in love – Seek justice for all creation. Our core values are faith, grace, love and prayer. That all makes me reflect on John Wesley’s famous quote, “Do all the good you can. By all the means you can. In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. As long as you ever
can.”
In 2 Corinthians 13:11-13, Paul reminds us that true peace and justice can only be achieved when we strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, and live in right relationship with God and our neighbors. We are called to not only seek peace in our own hearts and relationships but also to actively work toward peace and justice in our communities and world. True peace can only be achieved
when there is justice for all.
We are invited to teach others how to follow the teaching of Jesus. We are invited to model what it means to love God and love our neighbor. We are invited to be part of God’s transformation of the world by building up peace.
When we pray with a friend or stranger in need, we are living out our faith with authentic love. When we serve in the community, we offer a restorative invitation to our neighbors.
When we share our faith journey, we engage in God’s mission, discipling others into a life that restores peace through Jesus Christ. We are called to be peacemakers and justice builders. By partnering with God, we can integrate authentic peace with justice into our walk with Christ.
In Christ, we find true peace that moves us to be justified in right relationship with God and God’s people and with all of God’s creation. It is not a passive peace but one of action that drives us to build justice in God’s world.
God’s love moves us to compassion as we witness horrific events happening in our world. I can’t even begin to list all of them. It breaks my heart. But God’s love sustains us. God’s love leads us to work together to liberate those who are experiencing injustice. God’s love has been poured into our hearts.
And it is up to us to let that love pour out. We are invited to stand up and declare peace with justice in places where economic disparity, environmental degradation, gender inequality, racism, illness and disease take hold. Let us be bearers of hope to a world that is suffering.
Are you like me and ask, what on earth can I do? Who me? You want me to do what? And God responds, Yes YOU! We all have gifts and talents. We are not asked to do everything but we are asked to do something to the best of our abilities. We all need to do something. Action. How is God nudging you into action? Share it with others, gather around a table and begin a conversation, act upon the ideas generated. We all can do something working together.
The good news is that God’s love is so powerful that, together, as people created by God, we can work to restore justice and peace. Let us be instruments of God’s peace. Respond to your God Nudges.
